A Moonlight Stroll
His morning at The Ugly Mug with Sadie went really well and Josh’s head was swimming with the possibilities of the two of them together. He didn’t want to appear too anxious so he waited a couple of days before texting Sadie: Full moon tonight, do you fancy a walk along Shoreline? Her reply was almost instantaneous: I’d love it!
Shoreline Dr. snakes along the coast for three miles before it dead ends at a bluff overlooking the ocean. It’s about a mile from downtown and a favorite spot for sunsets, moonrises and romantic strolls. Needless to say, Josh’s mind was anywhere but at work that day as he was singularly focused on his impending moonlight rendezvous with Sadie.
When he pulled into the parking lot at Blue Heron Point Sadie was already there, looking fine in her Michelin Man jacket, sans the Dodger cap. “Hey there Fireman, what’s up?” was Sadie’s greeting as they shared a deep hug. Josh smiled broadly, “You look lovely tonight Sadie.” They began their slow stroll along Shoreline, again their conversation flowed easily, they were in no hurry, taking their time and enjoying the cool evening air and each other’s company. “Ahh Sadie, this is really nice.” “Yea, and pretty darn romantic too Fireman, you take all of your dates here?” Josh smiled, “Only the ones I’m crazy about.” The sun disappeared into the Pacific with a brief green flash, the western sky glowed a brilliant orange. The sky gradually darkened to a deep purple then to black as a faint glow began to grow along the hills to the east. They paused to watch as the ghostly disc of the full moon cleared the treetops. Josh put his arm around Sadie’s waist, she sidled up to him as closely as she could and put her head on his shoulder. He filled his lungs with her smell, a heady combination of lemon and sage. Who made the first move? They would debate this point for years to come. This much we know: The moon rose, illuminating the lovers like a spotlight. They turned towards one another and kissed. Their lips touched, Sadie’s tongue was so soft, her mouth tasted like cinnamon. This was a KISS, it was all encompassing and the energy that flowed between them was electric in its intensity. Josh had been waiting all his life for a moment like this, it felt so good, so right and at that moment he couldn’t get enough of Sadie. The moon continued to rise, the ocean breeze ruffled their hair and Josh and Sadie just kissed and kissed.

I can see the steam rising in the light of the moon.
